The Handlery Foundation Donates $20,000 to CHLA Hospitality Foundation

Funds support education of future hospitality industry leaders

SACRAMENTO, CA – (Sept. 8, 2021) – The California Hotel & Lodging Association Hospitality Foundation is proud to announce a $20,000 donation from The Handlery Foundation to its scholarship program. This generous gift represents another meaningful and significant investment from the Handlery family towards the education of the next generation of hospitality leaders.

The Handlery family has been an active member of the California Hotel & Lodging Association (CHLA) for four generations; beginning with Paul Handlery over 50 years ago. The Handlery family has developed a reputation for being a steadfast pillar of California’s hospitality industry. In present day, Jon Handlery, President of Handlery Hotels, serves as a member of the CHLA Hospitality Foundation Board and as a member of CHLA’s Board of Directors.

“Twenty years ago, aspiring hoteliers had few opportunities to learn about or enter the hospitality industry in the early part of their careers,” Handlery said. “Now, thanks to the Hospitality Foundation, doors to enter the hospitality industry have been opened for people that come from all walks of life. I am proud of my family’s role in that process and encourage all hoteliers to look for opportunities to help make our industry inclusive and accessible to the students who will shape the future of our industry.”

“The Handlery family has made, and continues to make, incredible contributions to help aspiring students become hospitality professionals,” said Michael Pace, CHLA Hospitality Foundation Chair. “So, on behalf of the decades of scholarship recipients that have been supported by the Handlery family’s contributions, thank you.”

Support from the Handlery family, and others, has made it possible for the CHLAHF to contribute more than $2 million in the last decade to the future benefit of the state’s hospitality community. The Hospitality Foundation awarded scholarships in 2021 totaling more than $155,000 to students, who represented 11 hospitality programs.

CHLAHF provides funding and assistance to individuals studying hospitality and the California institutions that offer hospitality training and related activities to further research and knowledge in the field of hotel management.
