L.A. Wildfire Relief and Emergency Resources
CHLA is thinking of the individuals, businesses, first responders, and everyone affected by the wildfires in Southern California. - Additionally, CHLA is partnering with Copia, an innovative technology helping to redistribute surplus goods – food, clothing, and more – to local nonprofits. Copia’s app will automatically match any available donation items to local 501c3 organizations in real time, provide transportation (if necessary), and send donation receipts for record. This will help make it easy to provide support to LA organizations in need. Copia has agreed to waive their fee for CHLA members this month and will only pass on the cost of a driver.
Federal Disaster Assistance
- The recent federal disaster declaration for Los Angeles County makes aid available to individuals and businesses. You can begin applying for disaster assistance via disasterassistance.gov or the FEMA mobile app (available for Google and Apple). A comprehensive fact sheet on federal resources can be found here.
Reminders
- As you welcome guests who may stay for extended periods, we remind you that guests may gain tenant rights under California law upon 30 days of consecutive occupancy, which may require formal eviction proceedings instead of immediate removal. Recognizing this distinction is critical to managing long-term stays. CHLA provides resources and guidance to help hoteliers navigate these situations effectively.
- Following Governor Newsom’s State of Emergency declaration for the Palisades Fire in Los Angeles County, it is unlawful to raise hotel room rates by more than 10% for 30 days, per California Penal Code 396. Seasonal adjustments, contracted rates, and cost-based increases are permitted. CHLA encourages members to prioritize community needs and avoid price gouging during this critical time.
