About the California Hotel PAC

CHLA’s Political Action Committee (California Hotel PAC) supports candidates for state and local elected offices who show the most promise of understanding and promoting our members’ interests, significantly increasing our ability to facilitate a pro-lodging business climate. CHALPAC receives contributions from individuals and businesses interested in the well-being of California’s lodging industry.

California Hotel PAC allows the hotel industry to present a strong, unified voice and to influence what happens to our industry – and our members’ business – in California. A contribution to the California Hotel PAC is the most direct and efficient way for you to ensure the interests of the lodging industry are represented, advocated for, and protected.

A contribution to the California Hotel PAC helps ensure that well-reasoning legislators receive an opportunity to bring the state forward, for all.

About the California Hotel Issues PAC

When the legislature fails to act on issues, those issues often fall to the ballot. CHLA’s Issues PAC is our tool to engage on those issues, both to support reform and oppose ill-formed concepts. The Issues PAC is our first-response tool to protect lodging interests when novel and urgent ballot issues emerge. Most recently, CHLA channeled funds from the California Hotel Issues PAC to the “No on Prop 15” campaign to defeat a ballot measure which would have reassessed properties at current market rates – increasing hotel property-tax liabilities by up to millions of dollars annually.

Contribute to the Issues PAC

Your Reporting: Your contribution will be disclosed on campaign finance reports filed by the committee and may also need to be reported on campaign finance reports filed separately by you as the contributor. Individuals or entities are limited to maximum contributions of $9,100 to California Hotel PAC, while contributions to the Issues PAC are unrestricted. Contributors or entities who contribute $10,000 or more in the aggregate in a calendar year to California state candidates, local candidates, ballot measures, political parties, or PACs are required to file their own campaign finance reports, known as “Major Donor Reports.” Contributions made to the California Hotel PAC or Issues PAC count toward this $10,000 threshold.

Important Notice: PAC contributions are not tax deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes. Under California law, if you seek reimbursement for any portion of your contribution, you are required to disclose the true source of funds used to make the contribution. If this applies to you, please include a separate sheet listing the name, address, and amount information for each entity that is participating in your contribution. In addition, if you are directing multiple contributions from different sources, note that contributions received from affiliated individuals or entities must be aggregated and treated as being from a single contributor. Contributions from foreign entities and foreign nationals are prohibited.
