Understanding the New City of Los Angeles Hotel Worker Protection Ordinance

On July 7, Mayor Garcetti signed the City of Los Angeles Hotel Worker Protection Ordinance. The ordinance imposes onerous compliance obligations on hotels operating in the City and authorizes huge financial penalties and damage lawsuits for noncompliance.

Key provisions include severe daily workload limitations for room attendants, required daily room sanitizing and cleaning, mandatory provision of personal security devices (e.g., “panic buttons”) and training, new time off requirements for certain employees, severe overtime limitations, the expansion of existing Hotel minimum wage requirements.

CHLA and HALA have invited leading hotel industry labor attorneys Richard Rosenberg, Eric Mueller and Charles H.W. Foster from Ballard Rosenberg, Golper and Savitt, LLP to break it all down and answer your questions. Don’t miss this essential briefing!

The Future of Hotel Safety

The pandemic has had a substantial impact on the hotel industry and times have changed when it comes to employee and guest safety. Technology has also evolved where guests can now bypass the front desk using contactless check-in, etc., and with the adoption of this technology, it may be challenging to “police” every area where guests and employees may cross paths. Hoteliers now need to be incredibly vigilant when it comes to ensuring that their employees are safe.

The City of Los Angeles has confirmed that a new panic button ordinance will take effect in August 2022. This webinar has been offered to answer the many questions that hoteliers may have concerning this new ordinance and the future of hotel safety.

This webinar will focus on:

  • How will this impact our hotels and hotel operators?
  • What new measures need to be implemented and how is the CHLA involved?
  • Panic Buttons: What are they, how can they be used and what benefits do they offer?
  • Training will be Required: How will it be delivered and facilitated, where and in what languages?

This webinar is a must-attend for hotel owners, managers, and front-line employees.
