CHLA Joins Coalition To Modernize California Privacy Law
A broad statewide coalition has launched ReformCIPA.com in support of legislative efforts to modernize the California Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA), a statute originally enacted in the 1960s before the internet era. Coalition leaders say the law is increasingly being used to file lawsuits over common, legal website tools such as chat functions, booking features, and analytics platforms, creating significant legal costs for businesses and nonprofits across California. SB 690 would align privacy protections with modern digital practices while curbing abusive litigation that drives up costs for businesses and consumers alike.
