Reminders

  • As you welcome guests who may stay for extended periods, we remind you that guests may gain tenant rights under California law upon 30 days of consecutive occupancy, which may require formal eviction proceedings instead of immediate removal. Recognizing this distinction is critical to managing long-term stays. CHLA provides resources and guidance to help hoteliers navigate these situations effectively.
  • Following Governor Newsom’s State of Emergency declaration for the Palisades Fire in Los Angeles County, it is unlawful to raise hotel room rates by more than 10% for 30 days, per California Penal Code 396. Seasonal adjustments, contracted rates, and cost-based increases are permitted. CHLA encourages members to prioritize community needs and avoid price gouging during this critical time.
