Hotel Industry, City Leaders Urge LA Council To Reject Labor Ordinance Amid Budget Crisis

Los Angeles Councilmembers John Lee and Traci Park joined hotel industry leaders this week to urge the City Council to reject a proposed wage ordinance that they say would lead to hotel closures, layoffs, and a loss of tourism-related tax revenue. Industry leaders emphasized that LA is already facing a $1 billion budget deficit and is still recovering from COVID-19 and wildfires, with tourism being one of the city’s top five employment sectors. Speakers called for a balanced, collaborative approach to protect the 540,000 jobs supported by tourism and ensure Los Angeles remains economically viable ahead of upcoming international events.
