Nevada City’s Historic National Exchange Hotel Marries Gold Rush Charm With Modern Luxury

Nevada City is home to CHLA member, the National Exchange Hotel, one of California’s oldest hotels and among the oldest west of the Rockies, originally opening in 1856 during the Gold Rush. The hotel has played a central role in the town’s history, hosting the first telegraph office and post office, and has been carefully renovated since 2018 to preserve its historic charm while offering modern amenities, including 38 Victorian-style rooms, the Lola restaurant, and a chic bar. Today, the hotel continues to celebrate its lively past with events like Drag Brunch, live music, and seasonal activities, reflecting Nevada City’s rich history and vibrant arts community.
