William Foster
William Foster with Portlight Creative Inc. has been in business for almost 25 years. He started in still photography in 1996 shortly after getting married and graduating Chico State as a Recreation major (yes, in that order). Since those early days, he has found himself photographing the most interesting people and places in the world. He has spent a lot of time as a photojournalist covering Capitol Hill in Washington, occasionally the White House and eventually accepted an appointment from then-Governor Schwarzenegger to be his official photographer. A part of photography he loves the most is storytelling. He loves the idea of capturing a moment in time that told a story about someone or something.
Eventually, William made the leap from stills to video. It took a while to get his footing because he was never content with making what he called “moving picture galleries”. He craved the story element he had enjoyed so much in photojournalism. So, he set out to learn about how to find, craft and tell a powerful story that businesses could use to deeply and authentically connect to their audience. These days, William is focused on businesses that are driven by a passion to change the world for their clients and customers. Hospitality is an area of particular interest to him as it is filled with these kinds of stories. He is on a mission to help these kinds of businesses bring a human element to their marketing in ways they and their customers have never seen.
