Downtown LA’s Momentum And Preparation For 2028 Olympic Games

Downtown Los Angeles is gaining momentum as it prepares for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, according to Marriott International Area General Manager Javier Cano. In a recent interview with Jeff Higley of the Hotel Investment Group by Northstar, Cano highlighted several transformative projects, including the LA Convention Center expansion, a $2 billion mixed-use development in the Arts District, and renewed activity at the long-stalled Oceanwide site. He also pointed to downtown’s growing residential population, its millions of annual visitors, enhanced public safety efforts, and the city’s successful track record hosting major events such as the Super Bowl, NBA All-Star Game, and FIFA competitions. Cano believes these investments and experiences position downtown Los Angeles for continued growth and create a strong outlook for ALIS 2027 attendees and the region’s hospitality industry.
