CHLA Joins Senator Caballero to Fight for CIPA Reform at the State Capitol

CHLA recently joined Senator Anna Caballero and a coalition of business leaders at the State Capitol for a press conference to advocate for the passage of SB 690. This critical legislation aims to modernize the California Information Privacy Act (CIPA) and litigation abuse by clarifying that the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) is the definitive law of the land regarding digital privacy. We stand firm in our position that California businesses should not be unfairly targeted under a 1967 statute enacted long before the internet existed. When filed as class actions, research indicates these abusive shakedown lawsuits under CIPA result in average attorney payouts of $2 million, while the actual plaintiffs recover a mere $17 on average. CHLA is dedicated to protecting the hospitality industry from these predatory legal tactics.
