City Of San Diego To Begin Collecting Increased TOT On May 1
Last week, the City of San Diego announced it will start collecting the increased Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) rates from ballot Measure C on May 1, 2025. For background, Measure C is a 2020 passed ballot initiative that enables the city to increase the lodging tax to fund convention center expansion, street repairs, and a homeless program. It authorizes the city to increase TOT and establish rates within three separate tax zones – 11.75%, 12.75%, and 13.75%. For the past several years, the implementation has been delayed due to numerous legal challenges. While the appeals are ongoing, the city believes that it has reached a threshold where it can begin collecting.
