L.A. Voters Turning Down Measure To Raise TOT Ahead Of Olympics

Los Angeles voters appeared to reject Measure TT, which would have increased the city’s transient occupancy tax (TOT) from 14% to 16% through 2028 and 15% thereafter, while also extending the tax to short-term rentals booked through platforms such as Airbnb. At the same time, voters appeared poised to approve Measure TC, which closes a longstanding tax loophole by requiring online travel companies to pay hotel taxes based on the full price charged to consumers rather than the discounted rate paid to hotels, a change city officials estimate could generate roughly $5 million annually for services such as street repairs, parks and other public infrastructure.
