New Indoor Heat Illness Prevention Standard Now in Effect
Cal/OSHA’s new indoor heat illness regulation, which took effect earlier than anticipated on July 23, 2024, mandates compliance for indoor work areas reaching 82°F or higher. Employers must implement a comprehensive Heat Illness Prevention Plan (HIPP) that is specifically tailored to your workplace. To comply with the new regulation, employers must provide access to cool drinking water, cool-down areas, emergency procedures, and acclimatization methods. Additional measures are required when temperatures reach 87°F or if employees wear heat-restrictive clothing.
